  • After breakfast, there will be a short briefing in the hotel where we will go through the trip itinerary, trek details, equipment for the journey, and your overall stay in Nepal.
  • Head out around noon for an in-depth tour of the Kathmandu Valley. We will visit the important landmarks in Kathmandu including the sacred Pashupatinath, Swoyambhunath, and Boudhanath.

  • Take a short 30 to 40 minutes flight along with the beautiful Himalaya sceneries to reach the Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla. The flight to Lukla is one of the best and thrilling flights you will ever take.
  • Upon your arrival, we officially commence our trekking journey by heading eastwards, high above the beautiful Dudh Koshi River.
  • Trek follows through hamlets and wood yards until we reach a tick forest of Silver fir, Birch pastures, and Rhododendron and pine forests. There are many small streams with numerous places en route, the whole of this area referred to as Chutanga which is a summer pasture.

  • We take on a steep climb today to cross the Kalo Himal Ridge in the Nau Lekh range. From there, we enter into the Hinku valley. The landscape and surroundings start to gradually become more remote.
  • The uphill trail is full of spiritual Buddhist chhortens. Traverse further to reach the Zatrwa La Pass.
  • From the pass, the view of Dudh Koshi towards Karyolung and the Lumding Himal is very impressive.
  • After trekking for a little less than an hour, we reach Chhatrwabuk.

  • Trek downhill on an impressive trail dotted with bright Rhododendron flowers and traverse the ridges above the Hinku Valley.
  • The spectacular view of the South-face of Mera Peak becomes visible from the trail.
  • A pleasant walk leads through the beautiful forests of Himalayan Pine, and Rhododendron, Bamboo along a ridge to the Hinku River all the way up to Kothe.

  • We walk alongside the mountain ridge of the Hinku Valley with marvelous views of Mera Peak and other mountains surrounding us.
  • The trek will be slow and gradual where we take on the rocky trail by the riverbed in the beginning and Yak pastures (kharka) later on.
  • We pass through the Gondishung, it is worth visiting an ancient monastery and a summer herder’s settlement on the west bank of the Hinku Drangka.
  • Trek further forward to reach the settlement of Thangnak.
  • Overnight in Thangnak.

  • We hike eastward from Thangnak and gradually trek alongside the natural scenery and acclimatizing our bodies in the process.
  • Trek through the adventurous lateral moraine of Dig Glacier to walk on the large pasture of Dig Kharka.
  • The hike then leads to a steep climb through moraines to the snout of the Hinku Nup and Shar Glaciers.
  • Follow the trail after crossing a small stream to reach Khare. The view of Mera Peak from the top of Khare is one of the best in the region.
  • Overnight in Khare.

  • We are above the elevation of 5000m by now. Therefore, to not risk the chances of getting AMS, we acclimatize our bodies in Khare for a day.
  • Head out for a short hike on the Mera Glacier trail by climbing a steep ridge and following the trail through Mera La Pass.
  • Here, we will practice the skills needed to successfully scale the Mera Peak.
  • Proper experience is not needed to climb the peak, however, prior practice will boost your morale and confidence to take on the challenge.
  • After the practice, return to Khare for an overnight rest.

  • We walk along the boulder-strewn path up to the nearby glacier, leading to Mera La.
  • Upon reaching the snout of the glacier, we gear ourselves up with crampons, harness, mountaineering boots, and walking with ice axes.
  • The pass serves as a camp before climbing up to the High Camp of the Mera Peak. We can enjoy the breathtaking mountain scenery from the top of the Pass.

  • From Mera La, we back up to the ridge and then onto the base camp of Mera Peak.
  • Trek through a steep rocky trail from Mera La. After the gradual ascend, the route turns left (south) and follows easy angled snow slopes.
  • Trek for a short distance from where deep and dark crevasses show up. The crevasses soon give way to slightly steeper but open snow slopes that lead without difficulty to the High Camp.
  • From the High Camp, we are rewarded with excellent panoramic views of Everest, Makalu, and the Nuptse, Lhotse wall.
  • The sunset from the High Camp is one of the best things you will ever witness.

  • Start our day early and after a quick hot breakfast, we make our way to the Mera Glacier at a slow and steady pace.
  • From the high camp to the summit bid will be made early in the morning, and take around 4 to 6 hours to get to the summit.
  • At the foot of the final steep summit cone, we may attach to a fixed rope depending on conditions. The summit is only a few meters away.
  • The slope steepens for a section behind the ridge and the summit comes back into view. The 360 panorama is perhaps one of the most impressive as well as incredible views of Baruntse (7129m), Haling (7319m), and Nau Lekh (6360m) with Makalu (8481m) looming behind.
  • We spend some time taking it all in before we finally descend to Kongma Dingman.

  • After the successful accession of Mera Peak, we walk through the remote valley of Honku and serene Yak pastures.
  • Throughout the trail, we are greeted by the wonderful panorama of the Himalayan Valley vistas.

  • We trek through the remote Himalayan valley to reach the south camp of Ampha Lapcha.
  • The route is off the beaten trail and we rarely meet any other trekkers, even in the high-touristic seasons.
  • Ascend steeply beyond the White Lake, the first of the series of Lake that occupies the upper Honku Basin.
  • Trek further forward to reach the Ampha Lapcha South Base Camp.

  • We start our climb early in the morning from the South base of Amphu Lapcha to the north base camp of Amphu Lapcha through the steep sections of rock and ice to take the pass when the snow is stable before the sunlight melts the snow.
  • We will use the climbing ropes whenever necessary.
  • The last section of the climb to Amphu Lapcha winds up through snow shovels. On the other side, we will descend on a steep slope on fixed lines leading down to the moraine.
  • Overnight in Ampha Lapcha North Base Camp.

  • Scale down the steep slope of the South Base Camp early in the morning. We will install fixed ropes to cross the steepest passages of the small glacier.
  • Crossing the Khumbu slope, facing the ocean vertically to the south face of the Lhotse, fixed ropes are installed, at about 300 m, for the descent on the Khumbu slope, with a 35 m passage requiring an abseil or an upper rope descent.
  • Then, we descend to the small village of Chukkung following the different moraines, dominated by Island Peak and Lhotse.

  • Today we will spend a day preparing for the summit at Island Peak, hiking around Imja Glacier, and descending to Lake Imja. In comparison to Mera Peak, you will find the top of the island easier to reach.

  • We will follow the footsteps of our guides, gradually and carefully climbing up the steep slopes up snow gullies and rock bands before easing off to a small plateau, where we will be able to take a good rest and enjoy the first rays of dawn.
  • We will make use of our mountaineering equipment like the climbing ropes, crampons, and ice axes whenever required.
  • After reaching the summit, we will savor the moment, take some pictures, enjoy the majestic Himalayan landscapes before finally descending down towards the village of Chhukung.

  • Going down the valley to reach Chukung, then Dingboche, at the confluence of the valley leading to Everest base camp, we will spend one night in a lodge in Pangboche.

  • We descend the entire Khumbu valley, via Pangboche, then Namche Bazar, crossing waves of tourists from all over the world.

  • Descend down the valley of Dudh Koshi and walk alongside the wonderful Sherpa settlement and villages to reach Phakding.

  • We have allocated an extra or contingency day in your itinerary in case of problems with the weather or acclimatization.
  • This extra day definitely gives some flexibility and use for a second summit attempt. This is also a buffer day in case of any other delays experienced along the way such as the Lukla flight.
  • If everything has gone smoothly and you succeed to climb on the summit day, this day is used to covering for the next day’s trek. If this day is not to utilize, as a contingency day, then it will use as a free day in Kathmandu.
